Brother of Skydancer Gunda Ermentrud and current guardian of her orphaned daughter Hjördís, Bloodstemmer Slacht Ermentrud is a kind, if somewhat bumbling, man. It’s this nature that most people attribute to him being assigned as a Service-class nurse, rather than an Intellectual doctor[1], though he’s every bit as skilled a medical professional as his coworkers. Due to the pain of losing his sister, and a desire to not let her daughter befall the same fate, he is overprotective of Hjördís, and his normally good nature falls completely in the face of visits from Military-class, desperate as he is to keep his niece from following in her mother’s footsteps.[2] He is a doting uncle, often giving Hjördís anything she asks for. Anything to bring some happiness into her life.
Though Slacht has many close friends, who all have almost nothing but good things to say about him, he is nonetheless considered something as an oddball, something that started after an incident where he was attacked in his home, and claimed that his assailant was some kind of creature that took his blood. Though he still insists on the truth of his story, there are few, if any, that want to hear it anymore.
