An island nation to the north of the Empire, Saoirse is one of the few imperial colonies to have won its bid for freedom, due in part to the assistance of the (at the time) newly-formed Tempestian Union. Their victory is also attributed to their island’s harsh winters, which imperial forces were ill-equipped to handle, but which the Saoirsians knew how to take advantage of. In the wake of their independence, Saoirse has established their own system of government with the assistance of the Union, and has since enjoyed an era of peace and prosperity.
Liberation from the Empire
Though Saoirse had long desired freedom from the yoke of the Empire, Vuurstahl's greater military power left the balance of power too uneven for there to be any hope of victory. However, with the aid of the Tempestian Union Security Council's interference and the post-war downsizing of Vuurstahl's military, the Saoirsians finally had a path to their freedom. By staging their rebellion in Kohlefest, when the Saoirsian winter was at its peak, they managed to meet the Empire on even footing. However, a stalemate is not a victory, and as the risk of spring became apparent, all hope seemed lost. However, in the final engagement that would decide the fate of Saoirse, a rebel calling herself Chainbreaker Sorcha Dioltas came to the battlefield wielding a forgotten Saoirsian relic called Daur da Blao, the Annihilating Harp. The relic revealed itself as a magical weapon of unknown power, and it managed to decimate the Imperial forces enough that they could not continue the battle without suffering more losses than they were willing to take. Their freedom was assured.
In the wake of the end of the rebellion, a Union committee determined that Daur da Blao was a weapon too powerful to leave in any nation's hands, and sent a force to capture the harp and its wielder. However, by the time they stormed what they determined to be her base, the Chainbreaker had vanished, taking Daur da Blao with her. To this day, her whereabouts are of great importance to TUSC, and she is only behind such figures as the Worldkiller in their list of wanted persons.
