“ | ...That place was never home to me. Mom and Catia aren't there, they're here. This is the land they died for, not that nightmare of smog and concrete. Maybe you can be at peace working with those that took them from us, but I can't. | ” |
—Nilo[1] |
The older brother of Steeldancer Fia Messore, Woodburner Nilo Messore’s life has wound up on the opposite trajectory from his sister’s. While Fia joined the military to repay the debt she felt she owed GMS, Nilo could never forgive them for their violence in shutting down the rebellion, the violence which took the lives of his older sister and his mother.[2] Though he had no choice but to follow his family to Stahlern, when he had to opportunity to return to Selvaggia, to join up with the Unemployed movement that was finally finding its feet again under the leadership of Raul Scavo, now calling himself the Wolf Lord, he took it without hesitation.[3]
Nilo was one of the most outspoken in favor of the Raven's Blades’ offer of an alliance in the name of throwing the yoke of the Empire off of Selvaggia, and in reward, he was given an IPS-N Shackleton that would turn his endless rage into combat power.[4] However, in the wake of the rebellion’s defeat once more, he was left battered and broken, and wondering if his actions had ever been what Catia would have wanted for him.[5]

A frame given to Nilo by the Raven's Blades in response to his desire for the power to crush the Empire, Down To Earth, like all Shackletons, is tuned to its pilots emotions. When the pilot's extreme anger peaks, it unlocks a second, more powerful form, allowing for swift vengeance should his comrades fall by his side. Due to his desire to never return to the Imperial core, Nilo had Down To Earth's reactor overclocked to explode in case of his frame's destruction[6], though when he was defeated by Stormfront, the 113th managed to retrieve him from his stunned frame without incident.
In the wake of the rebels' defeat by the Imperial forces due to the actions of the 113th Company, Nilo, on being reminded of his sister Catia's desire for him to live on, seems to have abandoned the frame, raising the question of if he will replace it with something less dangerous, or give up on the frontline entirely.

- ↑ "...I wish I knew, Nilo." Fia's voice, already so weak, breaks as she says it. "Every day I wish I knew that and so much more. But I have to think she'd want you to keep living, at least. In the home you both fought for."
"...She would... wouldn't she...?" Nilo lets out a humorless laugh at that, more like a rasping cough. "I came so close... to letting her down... I'm sorry, Catia..." (Mission Log, 6/25/2024) - ↑ "It's those lunatics in the Blades," [Chamomile] says darkly. "They gave him this frame, and when he said he didn't want to be captured by the enemy..." She sighs. "The 'explosives' are, unfortunately, a highly unstable reactor. There's no bomb to defuse-- we just need to find the best way to crack open the cockpit without hitting any fuel lines."
