When Hiroshi Iwasaki heard he was being assigned as head guard to Kazumi Aikawa of the Divine Hands, he assumed, like all those who held the position before him, that the task would be a simple one-- after all, Aikawa had been blind his entire life. Guarding a blind man who seemed unlikely to make it far should he pass out of sight seemed like it should be a simple enough job. Unfortunately, the young Hiroshi had spent little time in Takamen before his assignment, and thus had not heard the stories of the previous guards: that Kazumi not only could slip away undetected, but did so frequently, without warning, and without remorse.[1] Worse still, as a recent arrival, Hiroshi lacked the support his predecessors had to finally break free of the hellish task he now found himself with.
Years of attempting to keep Kazumi safe have worn on Hiroshi, turning who was once known for his patience and gentle nature into a raw bundle of nerves, on a constant vigil to try (and fail) to keep his wayward charge in line. He's become terse and irritable, unwilling to give the people Kazumi encounters even the barest benefit of the doubt. From an outside perspective, his concern may seem paranoid and unforgiving, but he knows that should any harm befall even a Hand as belittled as Kazumi Aikawa, it would be his head that would roll.

His guards all exchange exhausted looks, making it clear that their charge makes an unfortunate habit of slipping them like this. (Shore Leave 1, 12/28/2024)
