Masako Kumoyama was chosen as a Divine Hand at a young age, when her face developed the "signs of the mask". Believed by those around her to have been chosen by Kairaishi Himself to lead the Hands, Masako rose to become the head of Ayatsuri's conservative faction, her strict readings of Kairaishi's will well-received by those who sought complete obedience from the populace. She has an infamously cold, dispassionate demeanor, one that tends to dissuade those who would disagree with her, and is seen by her supporters as proof of the purity of her connection to Kairaishi, nothing but a puppet for His will. Her policies have made Kazumi Aikawa a constant thorn in her side, his more compassionate views contradicting what she sees as the unshakeable will of God.
Masako has been raising her daughter, Sachiko Kumoyama, to follow in her footsteps as a Hand, though that she's failed to develop the same marks as her mother's has attracted some detractors. While her daughter's training is usually believed to be for her to succeed her mother, a persistent rumor suggests a darker motive-- that Sachiko could displace Kazumi, finally giving Masako's faction complete control of Takamen.
