Amalia's scavengers are a scavenging crew under the leadership of Scrapraider Amalia Capello. Though most scavenging crews are composed of career salvage workers, skilled at identifying usable scrap and dismantling it for extraction, Amalia's crew is unfortunately far less professional. Rather than being hired, Amalia's scavengers slowly accumulated over time as she gathered various rejects on the fringes of the Empire, people who needed any job they could get to get by, no matter what. While it started as simply a business relationship, many of them have come to rely upon each other as something approaching friends... though they still wouldn't hesitate to abandon one another if their lives were on the line.
The crew consists of:
- Scrapraider Amalia Capello, their long-suffering leader
- Loosetrigger Alexei Volkov, a twitchy ex-soldier with an unfortunate history
- Gunrunner Radomir Ivanovic, their hot-tempered and irritable guard detail
- Quickfingers Jasna Kosar, part-time surgeon, part-time scavenger, full-time idiot
- Bombtosser Reynard Kohler, an explosives expert discharged from the military for cowardice
- Lockbreaker Hiedrich Dreschner, a former Cur under the scavengers' care
The scavengers used to be under the employ of Junkmonger Sven Denzel before an incident in the Wollefest of 15 NB, where the scavengers lost one of their number, the Treadfixer, to an unexpected Engel attack in Vruikt Barr.[1]Though the rest managed to escape to safety thanks to the actions of the Kingslayer squadron of the 113th Imperial Company, Amalia, unaware that the Engels' patterns had been disrupted due to a signal emanating from a tower deeper in the ruins, blamed Sven's Engel reports for the incident, and cut ties with the Junkmonger. Though the scavengers have struggled to find a consistent employer in the aftermath, they've shown no signs of regretting the decision otherwise.[2] The scavengers chalked the encounter itself to the Engels' killing instincts, though Starcutter Alruna Falki learned, through information pulled from the Sahaquiel's memory banks, that the sentient Engel was targeting them on accusation of murder.[3]
- ↑ "Every scavenger worth their salt knows Fange's a goldmine of wartime technology," Amalia scoffs. "And normally it'd be safe, but Sven's Engel reports were dead wrong. We managed to make it here, but not before they got the Treadfixer."
"I think I still have some of him on me," Jasna grouses, wiping down her hardsuit with one hand. (Mission Log, 7/7/2023) - ↑ Alexei is quiet as he considers, tilting back in his chair with a creak. "...Fine, I can put in a good word for you. Truth is, we have been kinda hurting for clients since we quit Sven's." He sighs. "The guy's a cheat and a liar, but at least he gave us something." - ↑ Alruna pulls data from the Engel's visual sensors, locked on the scavengers, with a word running rampant through its systems. Murderers. (Mission Log, 7/9/2023)
